Attorney Joins Bradley Arant Boult Cummings LLP

Bradley Arant Boult Cummings LLP announced that John S. McCool is now an associate attorney. McCool practices in the Charlotte office. He has joined the Construction Practice Group with the firm, where his focus is on construction litigation and transactions. He has experience as in-house counsel with an engineering and construction firm. He received a J.D. from Wake Forest University School of Law, where he was recognized as a Cali Award recipient and where he served as an editorial staff member. He holds a B.S. from the University of Alabama.

Cranfill Sumner LLP Announces New Attorney

Peyton L. Derrow has joined the firm’s Wilmington office. He practices civil litigation, with a specific focus on admiralty and maritime law and construction law. Derrow has previous experience in business and personal injury law. He served as an intern at the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of North Carolina. Derrow holds a Master of Business Administration and a J.D. from Campbell Law School, where he was involved in international moot court competitions. He traveled to Ghana in 2019 to study international human rights and comparative law. He also holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington.

Edwards Beightol, LLC Welcomes Litigation Attorney

Bryan Boyd has joined Edwards Beightol, LLC as a litigation attorney. Beightol will work in the areas of personal injury, wrongful death, medical malpractice, birth injury, traumatic brain injury, trucking accident, toxic exposure, nursing home abuse and neglect, sexual harassment, workplace discrimination, whistleblower/qui tam and wrongful termination litigation. Boyd was a professor at Campbell Law School for over 15 years, and he continues to teach the Wire in the spring semester. He has served as the Clerk of the North Carolina Supreme Court. He received a J.D. from Campbell Law School and a bachelor’s degree in philosophy from Mars Hill University.

Law Firm Carolinas Selects Managing Partner and Partner

Law Firm Carolinas announced that Carole Albright is the new Managing Partner, succeeding Keith Black. Albright practices domestic relations law. She is a Board Certified Specialist in Family Law and a certified Parenting Coordinator. After practicing family law in Greensboro from 1995-1999, she became the Department Chair and instructor for the Paralegal Department of Guilford Technical Community College. She returned to practicing law in 2006. She has also served as a professor at Concord Law School since 2004. She graduated from Wake Forest University School of Law, where she earned a J.D., and Washington College, where she received a B.A.

Adam Marshall was selected as a partner. He leads the firm’s land use, zoning and planning section. His practice areas also include community association law and corporate law, debt collection, and residential real estate. Marshall has served on several boards and commissions, including the Greensboro Zoning Commission, where he was a chairman from 2019-20. Marshall also participated in a work group through the North Carolina Coastal Federation for Advancing Nature-based Stormwater Strategies to Reduce Flooding and Improve Water Quality in North Carolina. He received a J.D. from Florida Coastal School of Law and a B.S. from North Carolina State University.

The Law Offices of James Scott Farrin Adds New Attorney

Ataesheeana (Tae) Storr is now an associate attorney at the Law Offices of James Scott Farrin. Storr earned a J.D. from Elon University School of Law, where she served as a teaching assistant for civil procedure. While in law school, Storr was the president of the Black Law Students Association, the vice president of the Hispanic and Latinx Law Students Association and vice president of case managers with the Innocence Project. She was selected as a leadership fellow and distinguished service award winner. She served as an NCBA Law Student Representative in 2020-21. Storr holds a B.A. in political science, cum laude, from North Carolina Central University.

Lawyers Mutual Announces Partnership with Erik Mazzone

Lawyers Mutual recently announced a new partnership with Erik Mazzone and Mazzone Works, LLC. Mazzone, a nationally recognized law practice management advisor, will work with Lawyers Mutual to bolster its law practice management capabilities. After practicing as an attorney for more than eight years, he joined the North Carolina Bar Association in 2008, where he served as founding director of the Center for Practice Management (2008-2017) and as Senior Director of Membership Experience (2017-2022). Mazzone holds a J.D. from Boston College Law School and an A.B. in English and philosophy from Boston College.

New Attorney Joins McAngus Goudelock & Courie’s Wilmington Office

Halee Morris has joined the firm and will practice in the Wilmington office. Morris is a workers’ compensation attorney. Morris was an intern with New Hanover County District Court and the New Hanover County Office of the Public Defender. She holds a J.D. from Campbell Law School and an M.S., magna cum laude, in public health from Campbell. She graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she double majored in psychology and anthropology with a minor in medical anthropology.

Morningstar Law Group Announces New Attorney

Ben Martie has joined the firm. For more than ten years, Martie has advised pharmaceutical and life sciences companies as in-house counsel. Martie has experience in matters of health care and life sciences, which include licensing deals, asset purchases, commercial transactions, manufacturing and supply agreements, wholesaler and distributor agreements, commercial launches, and more. Martie also works with life sciences companies in matters of laws and regulations administered and enforced by federal authorities. Martie received a J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center and a B.A. from the University of Georgia.

Senior Attorney Joins New Direction Family Law

Ashley L. Oldham has joined New Direction Family Law as a Senior Attorney. She is a Board Certified Specialist in Family Law. She focuses on military divorce and federal pension division. She has successfully represented clients in cases that were tried before the North Carolina Court of Appeals. Oldham has served with the NCBA as a CLE presenter on issues of military divorce. She earned a J.D., cum laude, from Campbell Law School, where she was an editor for the Campbell Law Review. She holds a B.A., cum laude, in psychology and dual minors in business administration and political science from Elon University.

Stott, Hollowell, Windham & Stancil, PLLC Names New Partner

Joy M. Chappell was promoted to partner with the firm. Chappell is a family law attorney. She has worked in the legal field for more than 25 years. Prior to becoming a lawyer, she was a paralegal for 13 years. She served as an intern with the Gaston County Public Defender’s Office, and she was a clerk to Judge Carl Horn III in the Federal Court in the Western District of North Carolina. She has volunteered with the Gaston County Domestic Violence Legal Clinic. She received a J.D. from Charlotte School of Law, an M.B.A. from Regis University, and a B.S. from Gardner-Webb University.

Young Moore Hires New Attorney

Caitlin A. Stone is now an attorney with the firm. She focuses on estate planning and administration, asset protection, and business transactions. She has several years of experience practicing at an estate planning and real estate firm. Stone has served as a Guardian ad Litem in Wake County. She earned her J.D. from Wake Forest University School of Law, where she was on the board of editors for the Wake Forest University Journal of Law and Policy. She holds a B.A. in anthropology from the College of Charleston.
