Milberg Coleman Bryson Phillips Grossman, PLLC Welcomes Inman As Senior Counsel
Lucy Inman has joined the firm’s Raleigh office. She will focus on appellate cases. Inman earned a B.A. in English from North Carolina State University in 1984, and after obtaining her undergraduate degree, she became a newspaper reporter. Inman graduated with honors from The University of North Carolina School of Law in 1990. While in law school, she was an articles editor for The North Carolina Law Review. She clerked for Chief Justice Exum in the North Carolina Supreme Court.
Inman has extensive civil litigation experience, an area in which she practiced for 18 years, first in Los Angeles and in Raleigh. For more than twelve years, she was a trial and appellate judge in North Carolina. She served as a Superior Court judge in North Carolina from 2010 to 2014. Inman won statewide election to the North Carolina Court of Appeals and served in this capacity from 2015 to 2022. She authored more than 450 appellate opinions.
Inman is a member of the Judicial Independence Committee of the National Association of Women Judges. She has previously served in leadership roles with the North Carolina Bar Association and the North Carolina Association of Women Attorneys. She has been a participant in the Judicial Division of the American Bar Association and Appellate Judges Education Institute.
New Direction Family Law Selects Two Partners
Chris Hicks is now a partner with the firm. Hicks, who exclusively practices family law, joined the firm in 2018. Prior to the firm, he practiced in family law and also criminal defense, civil litigation, competency proceedings, juvenile defense, veteran’s treatment courts and cases against the Department of Social Services. He graduated from Saint Louis University School of Law, and he earned a B.A. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he double majored in political science and communications. Hicks serves on the board of the Marcus Harris Foundation. He has been recognized for his work in criminal defense, civil litigation and competency proceedings.
Ashley L. Oldham, who joined the firm in 2022, is now a partner. She is a Board Certified Specialist in Family Law. Oldham has experience teaching continuing legal education courses with the NCBA. She has written pieces published by the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, LexisNexis and Lawyer’s Mutual. She received a J.D. from Campbell Law School, where she was an editor for Campbell Law Review and graduated in the top 10 percent of her class. She holds a B.A. in psychology and dual minors in business administration and political science from Elon University.
Thorp Law Announces New Associate
Claudia Barcelo has joined Thorp Law. Barcelo is a graduate of Campbell Law School, where she served as a research scholar, teaching scholar and teaching assistant. She received her undergraduate degree at Florida International University, where she majored in philosophy and history. Barcelo also has a background in medical studies and is a native Spanish speaker. She serves as a Guardian ad Litem in the 10th Judicial District.
