We hope everyone’s 2023 is off to a great start! The Dispute Resolution Section asks all mediators, arbitrators, collaboratively trained practitioners/neutrals, paralegals, and attorneys to please complete this Pro Bono Survey.

The survey measures pro bono work in the field of dispute resolution (including but not limited to mediation, arbitration, and collaborative law cases). Your responses will help determine nominees for the NCBA Pro Bono Awards and the inaugural Harmony Award.

The Council established the Harmony Award at its last annual meeting. This award recognizes a section member who has, during the past year, provided significant pro bono service as a dispute resolution professional, contributed to the dispute resolution field through leadership and volunteerism, and participated in civic, community, and charitable activities.

The Pro Bono Committee wishes to recognize all individuals who are promoting peace, harmony, and unity through dispute resolution contributions in North Carolina.

The survey will take only five minutes of your time. It closes at the end of the month, so please make sure you complete it by January 27. Thank you!

Nominating Committee Seeks New Council Members and Peace Award Nominees

The Nominating Committee is seeking nominations for eight new Council members to serve three-year terms beginning July 1, 2023, and ending June 30, 2026.

The Committee is also seeking nominations for the Peace Award. The section gives the Peace Award to one or more individuals in recognition of exceptional commitment to the peaceful resolution of disputes. Last year, John Sarratt was the recipient of the Peace Award. Here’s more information about the award and past recipients. Past recipients not listed in the link are LeAnn Nease Brown (2019), Bob Beason (2020), and Roy Baroff (2021).

Nominations for both the Council and the Peace Award should be sent to Jackie Clare at [email protected].
