How To Find Federal, State, and Local Government Jobs

Did you know that there are a variety of websites where you can find government jobs in North Carolina? Whether you are interested in federal, state, or local government, these resources are readily available to you!  While this list is beneficial to all attorneys in our state, it is particularly useful for law students and young lawyers.

State of NC

This website provides a list of careers with the state of North Carolina. Jobs range from the different North Carolina Departments (i.e., Department of Justice, Department of Transportation, Department of Revenue, etc.), Administrative Office of the Courts, Innocence Inquiry Commission, Office of State Human Resources, district and superior courts across the state, and magistrate positions, just to name a few.

NC League of Municipalities

​​​​The North Carolina League of Municipalities is a member-driven organization with an active 35-member Board of Directors who represent a diverse group of cities and towns of all sizes, from the mountains to the coast. Here you can find job postings for cities, towns, and other local government entities.

NC Association of County Commissioners

The North Carolina Association of County Commissioners (NCACC) is the official voice of all 100 counties on issues considered by the General Assembly, Congress and federal and state agencies. The Association provides expertise to counties in the areas of advocacy, research, risk management and education and leadership training. Here you can find legal jobs such as County Attorney and HR Director positions.

International City/County Management Association

ICMA is the world’s leading association of professional city and county managers and other employees who serve local governments. Here you can find job postings for City and County Attorneys, City and County Managers, Clerks, Human Resources, etc.

International Municipal Lawyers Association

The International Municipal Lawyers Association (IMLA) is a non-profit, professional organization that serves as an advocate and resource for local government attorneys. On this website, you can find job postings for local government attorney positions across the United States and Canada.

NC Association of Regional Councils of Government

Regional councils provide a wide variety of programs and services to their local governments and residents. The nature and extent of the programs vary, depending on local needs and the priorities of the board that governs each council. US Department of Justice

This website provides a list of careers with the North Carolina General Assembly. There are a variety of job postings available ranging from legal to non-legal positions.
