North Carolina Helped Us Start a Movement, and Now We’re Aiming for 1 Million Safer
Earlier this year, the NCBarBlog spotlighted Opt-Inspire, and North Carolina became the first state to grant pro bono credit to attorney volunteers delivering our digital safety sessions. Since then, our presentations have been approved by the IAPP (formerly known as International Association of Privacy Professionals) for Continuing Privacy Education (CPE) credit (3.0 CPEs for a volunteer’s first presentation; 1.0 thereafter for CIPP/A, CIPP/C, CIPP/CN, CIPP/E, CIPP/US, CIPM, CIPT).
On October 1, 2025, in honor of Cybersecurity Awareness Month, we’re launching #1MSecureTogether along with a student-run nonprofit focused on enhancing digital literacy for older adults, Tech Me Kid. #1MSecureTogether is a nationwide push to equip one million people in one year with practical digital safety skills (by October 1, 2026).
What We’re Launching
- Free, volunteer-led digital literacy & scam-prevention sessions at senior centers, schools, libraries, community centers, and churches, delivered by trained legal, privacy/cybersecurity, tech, and student volunteers. We come to you.
- The SecureTogether Signal: a weekly newsletter (52 issues) with timely scam alerts and bite-sized tips you can forward in two taps.
- Bite-sized videos & toolkits for “do-it-now” safety steps you can share with loved ones.
How we’ll measure progress: Real actions taken: people reached, workshops delivered, tools downloaded, sessions scheduled, and meaningful digital engagement (clicks, shares, saves).
Why Now
Scams targeting seniors have surged dramatically, and generative AI makes impersonations, voice cloning, and video spoofs startlingly convincing. We’re moving resources from “nice to read” to ready-to-use, bringing training to the people who need it most.
Why Us
Opt-Inspire and Tech Me Kid are volunteer-powered and expert-led (privacy, cybersecurity, technology, education). We mobilize attorneys, privacy pros, students, and community leaders, quickly, safely, and at scale, to reduce elder fraud and protect families.
New Tools You Can Use Today
- SecureTogether Portal: Interactive tools including Harba (our Digital Safety AI Assistant), a personalized risk assessment with tailored recommendations, and shareable infographics.
- SecureTogether Impact Center: Communities request presentations; volunteers browse and claim opportunities by interest, location, and availability. No account needed. It shows real-time opportunities, streamlines confirmations, unlocks volunteer materials once approved, and tracks activity so no one falls through the cracks.
