Pro Bono Volunteer Spotlight: Katie Riddle

Pro Bono Project: LANC Lawyer on the Line/Legal on the Line

By Sidney Thomas

A paralegal is an advocate, a teacher, an advisor, a valuable team member, and everything else in between. Katie Riddle exemplifies all of these characteristics through her dedication to her profession, her clients, and volunteering with the Legal on the Line Paralegal Partnership (LOTLPP)! Katie enjoys hearing about her clients’ experiences and being able to offer a helping hand.

Katie has served as a paralegal for the Lincoln Financial Group in Greensboro for almost two years. She handles a variety of matters, including, life insurance products, claims, underwriting, and regulatory matters, just to name a few. Her career path began in a law firm which eventually landed her in the corporate environment where she began to miss the fulfillment of public service. This growing need led her to Legal on the Line Paralegal Partnerships!

In 2018, Katie began as a volunteer at LOTLPP, handling matters that ranged from landlord tenant to bankruptcy. The project gave her the connection of working with people and provided the opportunity to learn about other areas of law to help her grow as a professional.  In early 2020, due to her outstanding dedication and passion for LOTLPP, Katie was appointed to serve as a group leader and connects other volunteers with clients in need. Colleagues describe Katie as, “A great team member in helping this project move forward. Even while being a group leader and overseeing multiple other volunteers, more often than not, Katie accepts a case herself.” Katie continues to focus on helping LOTLPP grow and create outreach initiatives to educate individuals and gain more volunteers.

Katie is also a member the North Carolina Bar Association’s Women in the Profession committee and Insurance and Data Privacy Section. She also spends her free time serving as a Guardian ad litem in Guilford County.

The NCBA Pro Bono Committee is appreciative of her hard work and hopes her achievements can inspire other paralegals to consider joining Legal on the Line Paralegal Partnership or other pro bono matters throughout the North Carolina.
