By Sheila Spence

The North Carolina Bar Association’s Young Lawyers Division is hosting Part 2 of the four-part Lunch and Learn Series focused on various practice areas. Every third Wednesday at noon, you will hear from one of our liaisons and YLD council about what it’s like to work in their practice areas. The second series will be held on March 17, 2021, at noon and will cover going in-house.

Register here for the In-House Counsel Series on March 17!

Learn what it takes to be an in-house lawyer, what a typical day is like, and what some of the pros and cons are, and ask questions and network with fellow YLD members! Whether you are a young lawyer, transitioning lawyer, or law student, find out what it’s like to work in various practice areas and the best way to position yourself to get there.

Our first speaker is Catherine Lane. Catherine is the General Counsel for Noregon Systems, Inc. in Greensboro. In her role as General Counsel, she deals with all legal issues that impact the company including those involving human resources, negotiating contracts and establishing business relationships. Our second speaker, Patricia Kelly, is Associate General Counsel at Novant Health, Inc. Patricia has been working at Novant Health for over three years, where her practice areas include labor and employment, athletics-related contracts, and general corporate transactional matters.

Here’s an inside look on how the Lunch and Learn Series will work:

  • YLD Lunch and Learn will be held virtually each month (February through May), on every third Wednesday, for 30 minutes during lunch time (noon to 12:30 p.m.).
  • YLD liaisons and YLD executive council members will team up to talk about the YLD liaisons’ practice areas. (Ex. International law, Sports and Entertainment, Employment.)
  • YLD liaisons will talk casually for the first ten minutes about their practice areas and what they do on a day-to-day basis.
  • After the ten minutes are up, we will open the conversation to questions and networking.
  • The YLD executive council member will ask a few prepared questions to begin the discussion, but anyone can start the party!

Why you should join:

You will have the opportunity to network with fellow YLD members in your practice area or learn more about a new area and meet new colleagues!
