Paralegal Division’s New Diversity and Inclusion Committee

By Stephanie Durham-Rivera, Chair

On November 23, 2020, the Paralegal Division Council voted to form a Diversity and Inclusion Committee.

The Paralegal Division recognizes that diversity and inclusion are more than just policies, programs, or head counts. They are about respecting the unique needs, perspectives and potential of all our division members.

The responsibilities of the Diversity and Inclusion Committee would include, but are not limited to:

  • Ensuring that all Paralegal Division members have equal opportunities to be appointed to committee membership, committee leadership, and other positions; and enabling them to become effective leaders throughout the Paralegal Division, the profession and the greater community.
  • Providing a vision and direction for retention initiatives with a particular focus on minorities and serving as an advocate for the interests of traditionally underrepresented paralegals and paralegal students.
  • Collaborating with the paralegal community related to diversity and inclusion, and specifically addressing employment and educational disparities.
Engaging in and helping to identify and address any institutional and/or educational barriers.

If you are interested in joining the Diversity and Inclusion Committee, please contact me or our Communities Manager, Lauren Colvard, directly.
