Attend the 24th Annual North Carolina Tax Section Workshop
By Helen Herbert
I hope this message finds you well. As we approach Memorial Day, I want to personally encourage you to attend the 24th Annual North Carolina Tax Section Workshop taking place Friday, May 23 to Sunday, May 25. This workshop is being held at the Kiawah Island Golf Resort and is an opportunity that promises not only high-quality continuing legal education but also meaningful connection with colleagues in our field.
As always, the North Carolina Tax Section Workshop provides tax-specific programming addressing both federal topics and North Carolina specific issues. Whether you are relatively new to practicing tax law or a veteran, the CLE sessions will offer timely insights on federal and state tax developments, planning strategies, and emerging trends that you are likely to encounter. On the federal side, there are sessions on the SECURE Act final regulations, tools for M&A transactions, advanced considerations for entity selection and tax classifications, developments in IRS collections, and a discussion of the strategy of using adverse private letter rulings. On the state and local side, there are sessions on tax considerations in bankruptcy proceedings, automation of sales tax compliance, recent examination activity by the North Carolina Department of Revenue, and current challenges in the area of administrative law including judicial deference, ruling making and mootness.
Beyond the educational value, the Annual Meeting is a fun time! It’s the most highly attended event of the year of the Tax Section and offers a chance to engage with fellow attorneys from across the state, especially at the Friday night reception. It’s also an excellent opportunity to mentor and welcome newer members to our bar.
I encourage you to register, review the program agenda, and make plans to attend. And if you cannot attend in person, consider registering for the live webcast. Your participation strengthens not only your own practice but our broader legal community.
I look forward to seeing many of you there.
