Dear Tax Section Members,

I am honored to serve as Chair of the North Carolina Bar Association Tax Section for the 2025-2026 year. Our Section continues to play an important role in advancing knowledge, promoting collegiality, and providing opportunities for professional growth in the field of tax law.

Key Initiatives for 2025–2026

We are working hard to achieve several goals for the coming year, including the following:

  • Growing Section Membership – Expanding outreach to attorneys across North Carolina and engaging new members. We have contacted law firms across the state to promote the Section and to encourage firms to invest in their associates through Section membership. We ask each of you to encourage your tax colleagues to join the Section if they are not already members, and consider committee and other involvement.
  • Promoting Tax Law to Students and Young Lawyers – Building bridges with law schools and supporting the development of future tax practitioners. We have reached out to all North Carolina law schools to arrange meet-and-greet and other engagement opportunities, allowing our members to interface directly with law students.
  • Serving the Legal Pro Bono Community – Expanding opportunities for Section members to contribute their expertise to benefit underserved communities. We are pursuing various opportunities including assisting pro se taxpayers during Tax Court calendar calls, volunteer opportunities through the Charlotte Legal Initiative to Mobilize Businesses (CLIMB), and opportunities at the Duke Community Enterprise Clinic and Charlotte Center for Legal Advocacy Low Income Tax Clinic.
  • Showcasing Our Annual CLE Program in Kiawah – Continuing to deliver high-quality, practical, and relevant CLE programming that supports our members’ practices. We have already lined up several top-notch experts from across the country, including Christopher Dinincolo of the Gassman Law Firm in Florida, Holly Norvell of Johnson, Allison & Hord, and attorney and CPA Rick Yandle. We are pursuing additional sponsors for the program and taking steps to increase attendance.
