Get Involved with the YLD

By Will Quick

It is hard to believe we are almost halfway through the 2021-2022 bar year. COVID-19 surges and related precautionary measures prevented us from engaging with our members in person during the first half of this bar year, but we are optimistic that the signs point to a rounding of the corner. As you may have heard, beginning November 1, 2021, the NCBA went back to hosting some in-person gatherings.

The YLD will take advantage of the opportunity to hold its first in-person council meeting in over 20 months on December 10, 2021 (there is a virtual participation option available). I’m thrilled at the prospect of getting back together with our great leadership team. I know many of our committee chairs are already starting to plan ways to bring in-person programming safely back to our members.

Not to miss an opportunity, beginning at about 5 p.m. on December 10, our leadership team will adjourn our business meeting and head over to Jimmy V’s heated patio for a social hour. All YLD and Law Student Division members are welcome to join us, but you must register here. We look forward to seeing you in person!

I also want to take this opportunity to encourage all of members to sign up to serve on one of our committees. Our great YLD programs and initiatives are only made possible through the involvement and service of volunteers like you. With us finally getting back to a more normal set of operations, we need all the volunteers who are interested to help plan and execute efforts in the second half of this bar year. We really want to hear from you about what you want see from the YLD and what better way than to get involved directly! The committees cover a broad array of networking, community service, pro bono and educational programs – there is something for everyone!

The YLD is divided into four divisions – Bar Outreach, Community Outreach, Civic Engagement & Pro Bono and Law Student Outreach – each led by a Division Director. Our Division Directors have put together a set of short videos that are included below to highlight the committees in each division and explain the work those committees do. After watching these, please review your options and complete this online form.
